Nelson Brown , president of J.B. Steel, has been a member of the Arizona Builders’ Alliance since 2001 and is a former board chairman of the ABA’s Southern Arizona Division.

The ABA offers a variety of training that would be cost prohibitive for individual companies to conduct themselves. By pooling resources, we are able to participate in high-quality training and educational seminars at reasonable costs.”
In addition to serving on the Southern Arizona Advisory Board, Brown attends ABA conventions, Southern Arizona ABA membership dinners, and participates in the annual Southern Arizona Volunteer Day, where approximately 40 J.B. Steel employees come together to help ABA give back to the community. Brown was recently recognized by his peers for these efforts and named the 2014 ABA Volunteer of the Year.
“The ABA provides our company with exposure through its many networking opportunities that enable us to meet and interact with customers on an informal basis. It is great to have the chance to develop relationships outside the heat of the day-to-day business,” Brown says. “The ABA also helps to educate members on current issues and to align political activities for construction-related interests.”
Founded in 1994, J.B. Steel is an American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) certified steel fabricator and an AISC-certified steel erector providing a full range of structural and miscellaneous steel products and services. J.B. Steel has grown into one of the largest integrated fabricators and erectors in Southern Arizona.
The contractor recently completed a large new hangar at the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Ariz. The erection process included lifting multiple box truss assemblies each 310 feet long and weighing 430,000 pounds.
“Our mission is to provide our customers with better service, higher quality, faster delivery and greater value than our competition. Because we choose to service only Tucson and the surrounding areas, we are able to react quickly to our customers’ needs,” Brown says. Other J.B. Steel projects include the Ritz Carlton at Dove Mountain, Unisource Building, College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture and the large new addition to Northwest Hospital.
